What is Microtese?
Azoospermia is a cause of male infertility diagnosed when a man has no sperm in his ejaculate. There are two broad classifications of azoospermia; obstructive azoospermia when sperm are made in the testis but are unable to leave the body in the ejaculate due to blockages or absence of the tubes, whereas non-obstructive azoospermia can be caused by hormonal imbalance resulting inno sperm in ejaculate or abnormal sperm parameters are seen. For both types of azoospermia, doctors may recommend sperm recovery through various surgical sperm retrieval (SSR) methods.
Micro-TESE may be used if non-obstructive azoospermia is diagnosed as it is a very thorough technique to search for sperm. A physical examination, blood tests to check hormone levels, medical history and semen analysis tests will determine a patient’s suitability for micro-TESE.
